Baie van Theewaterskloof se inwoners is steeds letterlik in die donker n\u00e1 die storms op 11\u2009Mei en steeds kan Eskom nie vir hulle of die media enige terug\u00ad\u00advoer gee oor wanneer lig weer aan die einde van die tonnel gaan skyn nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inwoners van Grabouw, Caledon, Tesselaarsdal, Villiersdorp, Riviersonderend en Bereaville sit met hul hande in die hare \u2013 kos wat vrot word, ekstra uitgawes soos gas om water warm te maak, planne wat beraam word om kos in die hande te kry, warm te bly en dan ook om ‘n positiewe gesindheid in di\u00e9 moeilike tye te handhaaf.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Maandag was ons presies drie weke sonder krag. Water moet gepomp word en dit het elektrisiteit nodig, dus het ons ook nie water nie. Gevriesde kos moes weggegooi word. Gas is op, wat gewoonlik langer as ‘n maand hou. Dit is veral die plaasarbeiders wat swaarkry, want daar is baie ekstra onkostes wat nou aangegaan moet word,” het ‘n boer van die Caledon-omgewing ges\u00ea. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘n Grabouw-inwoner het haar op ‘n ander groep tot die Eskom-groep vir hulp gewend. “Ons krag is al sedert 8 \u2009Mei af. Ek het die probleem weer op 22 Mei aangemeld. Ek wil weet waar die fout is en waarom niemand ons help nie.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Dis nie normaal nie’<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nog inwoners het gekla en ges\u00ea hulle sit met ‘n huis vol kinders en hulle weet nie wat om te doen nie. ‘n Ander inwoner s\u00ea niemand moet haar dwing om te lewe soos sy die afgelope drie weke al moet lewe nie. “As ek off the grid wil vakansie hou, dan sal ek dit doen. Dit wat nou hier aangaan, is nie normaal nie. In die menseregtehandves word water as ‘n basiese behoefte erken, maar nie elektrisiteit nie. Ons is egter nou sonder water ook.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens die Theewaterskloof-munisipaliteit (TWK) werk Eskom nou saam met die verskillende departemente van die Theewaterskloof om die probleem op te los. “Ons werk hard saam met Eskom aan die probleem. Eskom se spanne het ons die versekering gegee hulle gaan so gou as moontlik die probleme aanpak en dit dan oplos,” het die TWK ges\u00ea.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die streke wat geraak word, is plase rond\u00adom Caledon. Volgens die TWK werk Eskom aan die lyne en ‘n nuwe datum sal deurgegee word vir wanneer die elektrisiteits\u00adtoevoer herstel sal word. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Hemel-en-Aarde-lyn, wat Tesselaarsdal insluit, sou Saterdag herstel word, maar weens vandalisme moet hulle weer aan die beskadigde lyne werk. ‘n Nuwe datum vir die herstelwerk sal later deurgegee word. By die Villiersdorp-plase is kontrakteurs hard aan die werk om die probleme op te los en hopelik sal alle elektrisiteits\u00adtoevoer hierdie week herstel wees. In die Elgin-vallei is die meeste van die lyne al herstel en die oorblywende herstelwerk sal so gou as moontlik afgehandel word. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vir die plase tussen Caledon en Greyton is dit steeds nag. Die assessering is afgehandel, maar nou kan herstelwerk nie gedoen word nie aangesien tegnici nie by die probleemgebiede kan uitkom nie. Hulle hoop om dit teen 4 Junie op te los. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By die Overberg-waterraad en die Vyeboom-gebied is 10 Eskom-kli\u00ebnte al gehelp. Volgens die TWK is die meeste lyne deur die storms verwoes en nuwe lyne moet opgerig word. In Bereaville en Genadendal is van die lyne al herstel, maar baie plekke het nog nie elektrisiteit nie. Volgens die persverklaring is die elektrisiteitstoevoer Maandag herstel. “Al is dit ‘n moeilike tyd vir menige inwoner van die Overberg, was die samesyn tussen die inwoners ver-\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

blydend. Dit het my nuwe moed en nuwe betekenis vir die woord ‘Ubuntu’ gegee. Mense in Grabouw, wat elektrisiteit het, het hul huise en vrieskaste vir mekaar oopgemaak. Warm water is aangery en mense het saamgestaan,” het ‘n inwoner ges\u00ea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
