Hierdie herdenking het die eerste keer op 25 Mei 1963 in Addis Ababa, Etiopi\u00eb plaasgevind. Altesaam 32 Afrikalande was teenwoordig. Die OEA is in 2002 ontbind en deur die Afrika-unie vervang.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alhoewel Afrikadag nie &#8216;n openbare vakansiedag in Suid-Afrika is nie, word dit in ses Afrika-lande \u2013 Ghana, Mali, Namibi\u00eb, Zambi\u00eb, Zimbabwe en Lesotho \u2013 as openbare vakansiedag gehuldig.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Caledon-biblioteek het Afrikadag op 25 Mei gevier. Lede van die Oase-dienssentrum en inwoners van die Tafelronde Herberg is genooi om die verrigtinge by te woon.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traver Brikkels, bekend vir sy spitsvondige rugbykommentaar, het die gaste met interessante staaltjies en grappies vermaak. Die biblioteek se YeBoneers het ook aan die verrigtinge deelgeneem. Vaughn Jacobs het &#8216;n skreeusnaakse storie uit Jan Spies se Die antie met die pienk rok voorgelees wat die gaste behoorlik laat skater het. Calvyn Letshohla, wat in tradisionele drag gekle\u00eb was, het in sy kragtige praatjie ges\u00ea: &#8220;Vandag eer ons die ryk geskiedenis, uit- eenlopende kulture en ongelooflike sterkte van ons kontinent. Afrika is &#8216;n kontinent gevul met talent, wysheid, veerkragtigheid en hoop. Van ons tale en tradisies tot ons musiek, innovasies en pragtige natuurskoon dra ons &#8216;n erfenis wat die w\u00eareld inspireer. Afrikadag gaan nie net daaroor om die verlede te onthou nie, maar ook om die toekoms te bou. Ons het almal &#8216;n belangrike rol om &#8216;n Afrika te skep wat vreedsaam, opgevoed, verenig en ekonomies sterk is. Laat ons ons uiteenlopenheid vier terwyl ons saamstaan in eenheid.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Di\u00e9 jaar se tema vir Afrika-dag was &#8220;Verseker volhoubare waterbeskikbaarheid en veilige sanitasiesisteme om die doelstelling van die agenda-2063 te bereik.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerhard Afrika van Wyk s\u00ea: &#8220;Om by die tema van Afrikadag aan te sluit, het ons &#8216;n klankopname van TWK se waterbesparingsboekie, Tekile en die druppels wat saak maak, vir die gaste gespeel.
