The Khalabhash of Hope Foundation is a fast-growing champion of the environment, leading young people to pursue nature conservation. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through educational and skill-focused initiatives it is teaching youth about the importance and impact of nature. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Youth-centred, the foundation recently hosted an outreach programme at Lukhanyo Primary School in Zwelihle, teaching learners the importance of nature conservation through reading and community clean-up initiatives. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It formed part of an initiative to help rebuild the library of the area, one that is supported by various individuals and organisations. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It burnt down in a storm of volatility expressed by the community over socio-economic issues. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main goal is to rebuild the library as a shared space in which people of all ages can enrich their lives and empower themselves. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is also intended to showcase the very idea of conservation, which even applies to community life itself. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“[We] are showcasing nature conservation in our township,” said Zama Pikilana, a member of the Khalabhash of Hope Foundation. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We believe in the power of education, community and hope.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It works with young people aged 8 to 16. “We take the young people to nature reserves and so on to explore with them,” Pikilana said. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that “the plan is to work with youth across the Overstrand”, and not just the youth in Zwelihle. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although the organisation hosted a successful library outreach event and a clean-up initiative, there is still a long way to go to make the goal of building a new library a reality. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are also calling for support from non-governmental organisations and government organisations to help us on [this] big initiative we are currently working on,” said Pikilana in correspondence with Hermanus Times. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The support can be anything that is suitable for the building of a library.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of the current sponsors and partners of the foundation include but are not limited to the Overstrand Taxi Association, Enzo Lifestyle Tshisanyama, Dal Italia Deli, Magalos and the Overstrand Special Event Office. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
