Residents and tourists planning to celebrate with fireworks this season will need to think again, as the municipalities in the Overberg have issued a comprehensive ban on all pyrotechnic displays across the region.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipal authorities have taken a zero-tolerance stance on fireworks, warning that lighting them anywhere within municipal boundaries \u2013 including on private property \u2013 is strictly prohibited and carries serious legal consequences. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Remember, the use of Chinese (sky) lanterns, firecrackers, and flares for any purpose other than an emergency is prohibited by law. Selling fireworks in the Overberg is illegal, and all fireworks are banned across the region. Don’t risk it, using or buying fireworks is dangerous and unlawful,” the Municipal Manager of the Overstrand Municipality, Dean O’Neill said. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipalities continue to work closely with the police to ensure community safety. If you see fireworks being used or sold illegally, report it immediately to your nearest police station.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
