A groundbreaking initiative to transform educational opportunities for young people in Botrivier took centre stage at the Botrivier Hotel on Thursday 30 October as community leaders unveiled plans to establish a comprehensive school of skills by 2027.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ambitious project, spearheaded by a dedicated team of retired and active professionals from Botrivier and surrounding farms, aims to bridge the critical gap between education and employment for village youth through a four-year hands-on training programme.At a breakfast brunch attended by business leaders, organisations and Theewaterskloof Deputy Mayor Cynthia Clayton the non-profit organisation Overberg Our Community Our Future (OOCOF) presented its vision for an independent school that will offer practical trades and services training, life-skills development, mentorship and career guidance. The initiative would address a pressing need in the community, providing local youth with direct pathways to employment and further-education opportunities without having to leave their home village.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Generous land donation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The project received a significant boost, with OOCOF member Jayne Beaumont of Beaumont Wines generously made 5 ha of land available for the school’s development. This substantial contribution demonstrates the level of community commitment behind the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The school’s construction will unfold in three carefully planned phases: Phase 1 will focus on essential groundwork, including an environmental-impact study, land rezoning and site clearing. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Initial infrastructure will include four classrooms, theory rooms and workshops, a fully-equipped kitchen, an agriculture shed, administration offices, and ablution facilities and phases 2 and 3 will expand the facility, with the addition of a multi-purpose hall, more classrooms and workshops, a sports field and retail shop, a comprehensive educational campus.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The response from the Overberg business sector has been overwhelmingly positive,” said one organiser and central team player Rachel Browne, “with those present recognising themselves as primary stakeholders and beneficiaries of this transformative development. The enthusiasm and excitement demonstrated by guests signalled strong potential for ongoing business community support. There was a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation.” She and fellow organiser Manie Carelse emphasised that business-sector buy-in was crucial to the project’s success. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Local businesses stand to benefit significantly from a skilled workforce trained specifically for the regional job market.
