On Saturday (25 October), the Department of Mobility’s Land Transport Management and Road Safety Management units, in partnership with the Department of Arts and Culture, Overstrand Municipality, the Road Accident Fund, the South African Police Service, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) hosted the first-ever fun run event in Zwelihle, Hermanus. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event aimed to encourage community members to adopt an active lifestyle while promoting road safety awareness, a crucial message as the festive season approaches and road activity increases. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 150 enthusiastic participants took part in the fun run, creating an energetic and positive atmosphere. The event also provided an opportunity for various stakeholders to engage directly with the community about responsible road use, pedestrian safety, and making healthier lifestyle choices. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overstrand Mayor Archie Klaas delivered a motivating keynote address, commending the organisers for bringing the community together in such a meaningful way. He also took part in the medal handover ceremony, congratulating participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to staying active and safe. “Road safety is a shared responsibility, when we move together safely, we protect not only ourselves but our entire community,” said Sibonile Cweni representative from the Department of Mobility’s Land Transport Safety Management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Road Accident Fund and EMS teams were also on hand to share safety information and demonstrate how collective responsibility can save lives. In addition, the Department of Arts and Culture and IEC supported the event with music, educational activities, and voter awareness engagement, reinforcing the message that safety and wellness go hand in hand.
