With this in mind Overstrand Municipality hosted a community clean-up and tree planting at the Zwelihle Sport Grounds on Saturday 6 September. The National Tourism Minister, Patricia de Lille, joined the initiative that served to highlight the importance of collective responsibility in creating cleaner and healthier living spaces.

Saturday’s event formed part of an oversight visit to the Overberg District Municipality by national departments, including the South African Local Government Association (Salga) and key stakeholders.

The whole idea is to boost land reform, support community development and drive a national initiative for cleaner, greener spaces through active community participation. The Department of Tourism congratulated Overstrand Municipality on winning first place in the Western Cape Municipal Waste Management Recognition Programme last month, awarded by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning.

This accolade recognises Overstrand as the top-performing municipality in the province for its innovative waste management systems, recycling efforts and compliance with environmental regulations. Overstrand Municipal Manager Dean O’Neill thanked the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment for the donation of 10 trees that were planted in Zwelihle over the weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
