Britain’s foremost youth choir, the 100-voice National Youth Choir (UK), will present a 50 minute a capella concert in the perfect acoustic of Endler Hall in Stellenbosch at 17:00 on Monday 14 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concert will be conducted by one of Britain’s foremost young conductors, Nicholas Chalmers, and will include a diverse programme of works ranging from Anton Bruckner to “Bare Necessities”.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The choristers, who are aged from 18 to 25, is the flagship choir of the National Youth Choir’s four ensembles.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For over 40 years it has been home to some of the best young singers in the world.\u202f \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Choir members from a diverse range of backgrounds come together to participate in a unique, year-round training and performance programme. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group works with world-class musicians and coaches, creating, recording and performing exciting and innovative music.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chalmers is a senior associate artist of the Royal Opera House, where he made his conducting debut in the autumn of 2024, and was also the conductor of Northern Ireland Opera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He works with all leading orchestras and opera companies and is associate conductor: learning of the BBC Singers, and made his BBC Proms conducting-debut with the group in 2020. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the BBC Singers, Chalmers has programmed and conducted numerous broadcasts and concerts throughout the UK. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From last September, he has taken up the role of Fernside chairperson of choral conducting at The Royal Academy of Music.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The full concert programme comprises “Numbers” by Shruthi Rajasekar, “Tallis Canon” arranged by Bob Chilcott, Bruckner’s “Locus iste”, “Os Juste” and “Christus Factus Est”, “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl, “All creatures now” by John Bennet, “Irish Tune” from County Derry, “Auld Land Syne”, “My spirit sang all day” by Gerald Finzi, “Abendlied” by Josef Rheinberger, “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus, “Word” by Joanna Marsh and Berty Rice’s arrangement of “Bare Necessities”.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
