On Saturday 27 July, the top chess schools in the Cape Winelands battled it out in Worcester, to be crowned top school in the Cape Winelands and advance to the Western Cape Schools finals. Both the u-15 and u-18 chess teams of Paul Roos emerged victorious, and were named tops in their age category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was a gruelling day with five games of rapid chess (30 minutes per player) following a quick session with very little time for a break. The boys exercised extreme self-discipline to keep their focus, as one small blunder could have cost them a valuable game point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The u-15 PRG team competed against three other schools and gained 15 out of a possible 18 game points, which put them five points ahead of their nearest rivals. The u-18 PRG team competed against five other schools, losing only four and a half game points in their matches and emerging the clear winners in their category! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PRG boys can also be proud of their individual performances, with four of the six u-18 and four of the six u-15 boys winning all their games, and also claiming their board prizes. This is a commendable achievement for any team!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The players are ready for the next challenge they qualified for: the Western Cape top schools, where they will compete against the best schools in the province and hopefully retain their title of the championship of last year. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
