In \u2019n verklaring het dr Lynn Hoffman, voorsitter van die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) departement hortologie ges\u00ea: \u201cOom Koos se lewenslus sal beslis gemis word, asook sy besonderse passie vir hortologie. Sy plek as \u2019n jarelange vriend en gewaardeerde kollega is nou leeg. Hy sal egter voortleef in die gedagtes en herinneringe van die baie studente wat hy deur sy leeftyd ge\u00efnspireer en vir wie hy \u2019n mentor was. Baie van hulle beklee vandag prominente en invloedryke posisies in die bedryf.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
L\u00f6tter het in 1951 \u2019n graad in pomologie van die departement hortologie aan die US behaal. In 1968 het hy as dosent na di\u00e9 departement teruggekeer, waar hy tot en met sy aftrede in 1991 altesaam 23 produktiewe jare deurgebring het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vroe\u00ebr vanjaar het L\u00f6tter \u2019n toekenning van die sagtevrugtebedryf en die Wes-Kaapse departement van landbou ontvang vir sy bydrae, veral tot die uitbouing van die produksie van alternatiewe gewasse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sy kennis het van koejawel, vye, kiwivrugte en persimmons tot by lukwarte, kwepers en meer onlangs ook granate gestrek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
