The Telematics School Project (TSP), a joint programme of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and Stellenbosch University (SU), is extending free online learning support for learners at state high schools from Grade 10 to 12 countrywide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The content is presented in English and Afrikaans, and requires no data to access course work in 18 subjects, from languages (English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa) to mathematics, physical sciences, accounting, history, geography and more. All learners need to do is register with the zero-rated TSP with a personal email address. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once registered, learners will have access to live-streamed online teaching and recorded versions of the lessons, which they can work though in their own time, at their own pace. They can return to lessons as often as needed until they feel they are sufficiently familiar with the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learners have access to lesson videos, workbooks, revision programmes and course content summaries like infographics, practice and exam papers to help them make up for all the teaching and learning time lost since 2020. All content is quality-assured by senior WCED curriculum planners. Online access is also available via Facebook, but users will need data to access content for this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many high schools have already signed up with the project, but in these cases content is viewed by the whole class at once, explained Zainab Suliman of SU\u2019s Centre for Learning Technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Glynis Schreuder, Chief Education Specialist: Curriculum Further Education and Training and TSP project manager for the WCED, said in addition to the lesson broadcasts covering specific topics, quarterly revision programmes are also provided. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe revision programme summarises each term\u2019s work to help learners further familiarise themselves with the syllabus. We understand the many life pressures learners face. We want them to be able to integrate the use of this condensed content into their daily realities as effectively as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The TSP also gives registered users access to life skills workshops and videos, along with information on presentation skills, work readiness, preparing for job interviews, how to write a curriculum vitae, and even how to enhance personal mental health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
