{"id":53375,"date":"2022-06-16T06:08:45","date_gmt":"2022-06-16T04:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/eikestadnuus\/fietsbane-help-nie-veel-20220615-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T03:19:16","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T01:19:16","slug":"fietsbane-help-nie-veel-20220615-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/eikestadnuus\/fietsbane-help-nie-veel-20220615-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Fietsbane \u2018help nie veel\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Die brief in <i><span id=\"U10372479504cOB\" style=\"font-weight:bold;font-style:italic;\">Eikestadnuus<\/span><\/i>van 18 November 2021 onder die opskrif \u201cGebrek aan vervoer: siekes sukkel steeds\u201d verwys na twee aspekte, naamlik die gevare van voertuie wat vir stappers en fietsryers te vinnig ry in Merrimanlaan en die gebrek aan\u2019n vervoerdiens vir siekes\/pasi\u00ebnte wat die provinsiale hospitaal besoek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die burgemeester, in haar antwoord, toon wel simpatie met mense wat nie vervoer insluitend taxi\u2019s kan bekostig nie, maar gee nie aandag aan die groter kwessie om Merrimanlaan te beveilig vir juis stappers en fietsryers nie. Merriman\u00adlaan is van bo tot onder \u2019n belangrike verbindingsaar in ons dorp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sedert Novembermaand het ons waargeneem toe die kampus veral sedert Februarie weer vol aan die gang was, hoe gevaarlik Merrimanlaan by tye raak vir fietsryers en voetgangers. (Sien foto.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die smal geverfde fietsbane bied geen beskerming vir weerlose fietsryers teen voertuie wat dikwels in hierdie bane ry nie, en die oplossing, naamlik afgesperde fietsbane, is voor die hand liggend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stellenbosch-Fietsry het Merrimanlaan se gebreke vir stappers en fietsryers al dikwels onder die aandag van die munisipaliteit se ingenieursdienste gebring. Die probleem is in hoofsaak \u2019n gebrekkige NMT-begroting. Skaars 2% van die vervoerbegroting in die huidige boekjaar gaan aan NMT-projekte en minder as 1% aan fietsry. Gevolglik kan nie uitvoering gegee word aan die oorhoofse fietsplan se voorstelle vir Merrimanlaan nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die fietsplan stel voor dat Merrimanlaan van Cluverweg tot Adam Tasweg opgeknap word tot \u2019n klas 2-fietsbaan, dus \u2019n afgesperde baan aan weerskante van Merrimanlaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Di\u00e9 straat is \u2019n onmisbare skakel in \u2019n veiliger fietsnetwerk vir die dorp en veiligheid moet hier aandag kry, veral wanneer die Adam Tas-korridor-projek \u2019n werklikheid word en mense van daar per voet of per fiets moet pendel. En die burgemeester het juis die Adam Tas-korridor as een van haar prioriteite vir haar nuwe termyn uitgelig. As behuising daar verskaf gaan word, soos beplan, sal Merrimanlaan waarskynlik verleng moet word tot oor die spoorweg, wat ook afgesperde fietsbane noodsaak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aktiewe mobiliteit, soos oorsese lande al meer besef, hetsy of dit in die vorm van stap, fietsry of selfs skaatsplanke is, bied vir die armstes onder ons \u2019n geleentheid om oor die weg te kom sonder die uitgawes wat openbare vervoer meebring. Hier wag \u2019n uitdaging op die munisipaliteit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><superbyline><br>\n <name>Hugo Truter,
