Inwoners van Longlands en Vlottenburg se informele nedersettings is ongelukkig oor die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit glo geweier het om hulle te help nadat hul huise verlede week tydens die swaar re\u00ebn oorstroom is. Maar, s\u00ea die munisipaliteit, hierdie bewerings is onwaar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die sowat 80 huisgesinne het Dinsdagoggend (14 Junie) met water wat regdeur hulle huise vloei wakker geword. \u201cOns het omstreeks 05:00 wakker geskrik. Die water was al kniehoogte en het deur ons huis gevloei. Ons het die munisipaliteit se nooddienste vir hulp gebel,\u201d het Jessica Swarts van Longlands ges\u00ea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maar, s\u00ea die inwoners, tot hul verbasing het die munisipaliteit se rampbestuur ges\u00ea hulle (die rampbestuur) kan nie die inwoners help nie, want die inwoners is op private grond. \u201cOns het gevra of hulle nie net dan vir ons seile kan gee nie. Hulle het steeds ges\u00ea hulle kan ons nie help nie, want ons is op privaat grond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOns het nie vir geld of kos gevra nie, net vir seile en dit wou hulle nie eens vir ons gee nie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volgens die inwoners was dit nog nooit voorheen \u2019n probleem nie en is dit die eerste keer dat die munisipaliteit hulle nie wil help nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOns verstaan nie hoekom hulle ons nie nou kan help nie. Voorheen was dit nie \u2019n probleem nie. Toe dit \u2019n paar jaar gelede ook oorstroom het, het hulle ons met seile gehelp, wat is nou anders as destyds? Of was dit toe net vir ons stemme. Toe hulle ons stemme wou h\u00ea, was ons goed genoeg, nou wil hulle ons nie help nie,\u201d het Elenora Stigland, van Vlottenburg, ges\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Swarts, wie se huis onlangs gebrand het, s\u00ea dit het by haar dak ook ingere\u00ebn. \u201cOns kinders kon nie skool toe gaan nie, want al ons besittings en klere het nat gere\u00ebn. Ons moes tot die naweek toe die water wegvee. Die seile sou ten minste help om skuiling te bied teen die ergste re\u00ebn. Dit is \u2019n gesondheid- en veiligheidsrisiko vir ons hier, hier is mense wat TB-lyers is en mense wat sieklik is.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die munisipaliteit het bevestig \u2019n oproep om hulp is ontvang n\u00e1 die stormre\u00ebn verlede week. \u201cDie munisipaliteit se rampbestuurspanne en brandweerpersoneel het gereageer en was op die perseel om hulp te verleen en gesinne by te staan,\u201ds\u00ea Stuart Grobbelaar, munisipale woordvoerder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hy s\u00ea egter bewerings dat die munisipaliteit \u201cgeweier\u201d het om aandag te gee aan die versoek, is onwaar. \u201cDie munisipaliteit sal en mag nie weier om inwoners te help nie. Ons is ook bewus dat die polisie baie oproepe van die gebied ontvang het en dalk was dit die polisie wat ges\u00ea het hulle kan nie help nie.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hy s\u00ea die munisipaliteit se rampbestuurspanne tesame met privaat skenkers het ook besoek aan die omgewing op 15 Junie afgel\u00ea om bystand te lewer deur kos en warm sop aan inwoners uit te deel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDie burgemeester, onderburgemeester, wyksraadslid en munisipale bestuurder was juis op 21 Junie by die Longlands\/Vlottenburg-projek om inwoners te besoek en self te sien hoe werk aan die nuwe huise en op die bouperseel vorder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
