{"id":52680,"date":"2022-09-01T16:28:32","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T14:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/eikestadnuus\/festival-fun-in-the-boland-20220901\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T04:08:04","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T02:08:04","slug":"festival-fun-in-the-boland-20220901","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/eikestadnuus\/festival-fun-in-the-boland-20220901\/","title":{"rendered":"Festival fun in the Boland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"p\">The Waterblommetjie Festival returns to Paarl this year and promises to be a celebration of all things inspired by the local delicacy. <p><\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\n<p>Hosts Domaine Brahms, Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and Windmeul Kelder will offer a day of waterblommetjies, wine and family fun this Saturday (3 September).<\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\n<p>During the festival, waterblommetjies will be served with a modern twist and appear on pizza, infused in drinks and even ice cream and paired with award-winning wines from Paarl.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\n<p>The three venues are conveniently located within a 5km radius and can easily be fitted into the one day festival schedule. Instead of paying an entrance fee, festival goers are requested to make a donation of canned foods to local charity Athlone House of Strength at the drop-off points at each venue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\n<p>Domaine Brahms will offer buffet breakfasts and lunches at Toeka Stoor, which stocks antiques and other collectables, while a variety of waterblommetjie dishes and fresh waterblommetjies will also be available. There will also be wines, a farmers\u2019 market, tractor rides, an outdoor play area and farm animals. Live music will create a festive vibe while face painting artists will get all in a festive mood.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\n<p>At Rheebokskloof, local band Tequila will provide live music while you feast on food on drink from the dedicated bar and food area. A jumping castle, slippery slide and dedicated play areas will delight the little ones.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">The Waterblommetjie Festival originated at Windmeul Kelder and they are still honouring tradition with a fiercely contested waterblommetjie potjiekos competition. Teams can enter the competition by sending an email to wines@windmeul.com and the potjies vary from authentic to innovative. There will also be a farmers\u2019 market, farmers\u2019 breakfast, tasting room and the the Run the Vines trail run in the morning (enter at www.runthevines.co.za).
