The Cape Winelands District Municipality\u2019s (CWDM) tourism unit, together with the local tourism associations (LTAs) launched Tourism Month in Zwelethemba on 1 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The national theme for 2022 is \u201cRethinking Tourism\u201d, with three action areas: spreading the word, joining the celebrations and sharing one\u2019s story. And the CWDM is spreading the word! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In its capacity as regional tourism office (RTO), the municipality is mandated to promote tourism by creating an enabling environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the first six months of 2022 the CWDM invested almost R1,2 million in national radio and digital media campaigns to help support initiatives by the LTAs and related organisations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wesgro confirmed in its report that the Cape Winelands was the most popular region for repeat visits. The district had a slightly higher repeater rate than the general average for the province (69,6%), and it was the second-most visited district after Cape Town. These figures confirm the impact of combined effort and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese figures tell us that once people have visited the district, they return for more,\u201d said Executive Mayor (Dr) Elna von Schlicht. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd we suspect that the reason for this is not only due to the variety of high-quality, pocket-friendly venues, destinations and activities on offer, but mostly due to the incredible warmth of the people who serve our visitors.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CWDM will also be embarking on our Summer in the Cape Winelands marketing campaign, which is aimed at promoting various activities and options for people planning a break during the summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Virtually all the accommodation options in the district have swimming or other natural pools in which our visitors can cool down on hot days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe CWDM takes great pride in sharing the stories that make this district special,\u201d urged Von Schlicht. \u201cEach visitor\u2019s experience is intricately woven into ours. The laughter of people enjoying and celebrating a wedding becomes part of the birdsong that greets the early morning trail runner, whose beating footfalls echo through valleys and eventually become the voice that calls visitors from all over the world to our district. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
