The organisers of the K-Way MaxiRace Cape Winelands have announced a series of strategic changes to the 2023 instalment to ensure an even fuller experience for runners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event is scheduled for Sunday 30 September 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The biggest announced change is the retirement of the 120 km route, moving to focus on the 75 km route as the primary ultra-distance for MaxiRace Cape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWith much of the land we traverse for the race being privately owned or managed, we feel we have not been able to give our runners the best route experience for the 120 km race,\u201d said race director Andri Stander. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe felt that we would rather reconsider the 120 km at a later stage, once we have access to all the land-use areas that would offer our runners a world-class route and not force us to make up mileage with loops and two-way segments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know that our 75 km route is of a world-class standard and we aim to ensure it has even more to offer runners in the future!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also announced was the introduction of a 30 km route to the race mix. This was done to add a bridging race for those who have mastered the 20 km mountain route but are not yet ready to run the 45 km route. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The races, which were previously always held over two days with the ultra-distances taking place on the Saturday and the shorter routes the Sunday, will now be held on one day with a full prize-giving and after-party taking place at the race village the afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Runners wanting to enter the 2023 race can benefit from early-bird discount entries for the first 50 entrants for each route only. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
