To celebrate its successful inaugural year the Cape Chamber Music Collective is presenting two programmes for different ensembles between 11 and 18 December at various venues in and around Cape Town.<\/p>\n

\n

The first is a programme of works for piano trio by Haydn, Debussy, Suk and Piazzolla, and then a programme of chamber music for string sextet by Brahms and Tchaikovsky.<\/p>\n

\n

The piano trios will be performed by Cape Town\u2019s leading musicians \u2013 Francois du Toit, Farida Bacharova and Graham du Plessis, all lecturers at the SA College of Music at UCT.<\/p>\n

\n

Haydn\u2019s \u201cPiano Trio No. 39 in G Major (Gypsy)\u201d contains one of his best-known movements, the \u201cRondo all\u2019Ongarese (Gypsy Rondo)\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe Piano Trio\u201d by Claude Debussy, also in G Major, is a youthful work written when Debussy was 18 years old. Written in the French salon style, it is full of lyricism and many have described the piece over time as delightfully charming.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cSummer\u201d from Astor Piazzolla\u2019s \u201cThe Four Seasons of Buenos Aires\u201d is inspired by Vivaldi\u2019s famous work. Originally scored for a quintet, it is presented here in an arrangement for piano trio.<\/p>\n

\n

The programme is rounded off with Josef Suk\u2019s \u201cElegie Op. 23\u201d, which was written for a memorial to Julius Zeyer, Bohemian novelist and writer of epic poetry.<\/p>\n

\n

The string sextet programme includes Brahms\u2019 \u201cString Sextet No.1 in B-flat major Op. 18\u201d and Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u201cString Sextet in D minor, Souvenir de Florence Op. 70.\u201d The sextet comprises Jordan Brooks (violin), winner of the National Youth Music Competition 2019 and recent soloist with the CPO, with the CPO providing the remaining members of the sextet\u2009\u2013\u2009Pieter Joubert (violin), Petrus Coetzee and Azra Isaacs (viola), Eddie McLean and Dane Coetzee (cello).<\/p>\n

Performances will take place at the following venues:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Paarl: \u201cPiano Trio\u201d on Sunday 11 December at 16:00, Strooidak church, 163 Main Road, Hoog-En-Droog, Paarl. Tickets are R150. <\/li>\n
  • Wellington: \u201cString Sextet\u201d on Saturday 17 December at 19:00 at Old Tannery, Hermon Road, Wellington. Tickets are R150 includes a free glass of wine. <\/li>\n
  • Stellenbosch: \u201cString Sextet\u201d on Sunday 18 December at 19:00 at Old Nectar Gardens, Jonkershoek Valley. Tickets are R200\/R50 students and includes a free glass of wine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
