Local community organisation, Clay Foundation, spread some love this past Christmas Season by distributing close to 120 gift boxes through their yearly Santa Shoebox initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe goal of this initiative is to ensure that the most vulnerable children in and around Stellenbosch also get to celebrate this special time of the year. For us as an organisation it\u2019s about sharing love, generosity and making people aware that this time is about giving,\u201d said chair of Clay Foundation, Eon Hendricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members distributed items at the Stellenbosch Hospital Children Ward, Stellenbosch Safe house, as well as to the Blue Birds Netball team from Idas Valley Stellenbosch. \u201cThis year we have distributed around about 100-120 Santa Shoeboxes,\u201d Hendricks added. \u201cThis is our second year and the project have grown. This could not be possible without the generosity of community members.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The items are collected throughout the year by the Clay Foundation committee members and community members are actively involved in donating products to put in the Santa Shoebox Initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hendricks says it is a fully community driven project since community members, especially young people are actively involved in donating and collecting products. \u201cThis is a beautiful example of the importance that we must work together as communities to make a difference in our different areas.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hendricks believes that through this project inequality and poverty in Stellenbosch is once again highlighted by the fact that so many people have and yet so many people do not have. \u201cThe goal is to encourage more individuals to get involved or even start a similar initiative in their areas in order to reach more children,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
