Public speakers from schools in Stellenbosch, the surrounding areas and Cape Town arrived at Paul Roos Gymnasium (PRG) with great anticipation for the second Masithethe! isiXhosa competition, which was hosted with resounding success by PRG on Saturday, 22 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was evident that the learners were excited to participate in this one-of-a-kind competition, which focuses on promoting the isiXhosa language. The learners were well-prepared, and spirits ran high when the winners were announced in the afternoon. First, second, and third place winners walked away with R500, R300, and R200, respectively. Additionally, all participants received a Masithethe! (Let\u2019s talk) certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ENSafrica\u2019s Jan Viviers played a significant role in the origin of Masithethe, serves as its official sponsor, and was present to share in the excitement of the day. Language experts from the University of Stellenbosch \u2013 Dr Zameka Sijadu (Faculty of African Language) and Dr Simthembile Xeketwana (Faculty of Education) \u2013 joined Masithethe! for the second year in a row, serving as special judges during the final round. Meanwhile, teachers from participating schools served as judges during the first round of the competition. Christine Canaris (PRG) coordinated the Masithethe! isiXhosa Oratory Competition and acted as the Master of Ceremonies on the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learners from Groote Schuur High School entertained participants with singing and dancing performances, while guitarists from the Paul Roos Senior Band played African-inspired background music throughout the day.
