Shoprite and Checkers are calling all chefs, cooks and boerewors enthusiasts to enter their sizzling recipes in the 31st annual Championship Boerewors competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entries close on 16 June, and the winner will walk away with the coveted title of South Africa\u2019s boerewors champion and a brand-new Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD-6 RB MT valued at R650 000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWinning the competition was an incredible experience,\u201d says Welcome Magoso (24), last year\u2019s winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t think I\u2019d win on the first try. Now I know nothing can stop me from achieving what I want, not even my age. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would encourage anyone with a good recipe to give it a go because it might change your life. My friends have been asking me for advice on how to enter and I hope they do.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Launched in 1992, the competition has attracted boerewors makers from all walks of life over the past three decades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winning boerewors will be available for purchase at Shoprite and Checkers stores nationwide. \u201cThe best part of winning the competition is seeing people purchase and enjoy something I created,\u201d Magoso declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The competition will be judged by a panel of culinary experts from the South African Chefs Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All recipes will go through a validation process and must adhere to the guidelines for making traditional boerewors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once validated, the judges will shortlist 30 recipes before narrowing them down to the top 10 finalists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shoprite and Checkers will then invite the top 10 finalists to a special event where they will prepare and cook their boerewors for the judging panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winner will be declared on the same day and will walk away with incredible prizes and the esteemed Championship Boerewors maker title for the year 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
