Local artist Natalie Jordaan is set to have the big opening night of her latest art exhibition at the renowned historical gem, the Breytenbach Centre Gallery in Wellington this weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If people cannot make the launch, from 13:00 to 16:00 on 24 June, they mustn\u2019t fret, for they will still have a chance to view and appreciate (and perhaps even purchase) her artworks until 23 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jordaan\u2019s artworks are known for their deeply romantic, subtly enticing, and often mysterious style and message, and her work is best known for portraiture and human form, particularly the female form. What\u2019s more, her artworks usually come with fascinating stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jordaan\u2019s own life has seen a mixture of influences. \u201cMy entire upbringing has been scattered with multinationalism,\u201d she said. \u201cBorn to South African parents in West Germany I grew up in Namibia and South Africa. My adult life was spent primarily in Asia (Japan, Hong Kong and China), which includes travels through nomadic Mongolia and South East Asia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jordaan believes the reason the characters in her artworks transcend time and borders is due to this mix. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her main focus has always been female form and portraiture, female power. \u201cI believe, although the power of the human mind and body is influential, the dynamics and ratio of these varying attributes appear differently in everyone.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her depictions do not necessarily focus on virtue or vice, strength or weakness, victory or defeat, but rather on impact. All her characters are influential somehow, even tangible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
