Die oud-Springbok Theuns Stofberg (68) is Maandag (21 Augutus) met ernstige beserings na \u2019n hospitaal gehaas, waar hy gisteroggend (Woensdag 23 Augustus) oorlede is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carine Strydom, die mede-eienaar van Spar in die Lions Square-winkelsentrum in Somerset-Wes, is in die trompop-botsing oorlede. Die 65-jarige was glo onderweg Moorreesburg toe saam haar man, Theo, toe die ongeluk plaasgevind het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stofberg se familie het in \u2019n persverklaring bevestig dat hy Maandagaand op pad terug na sy huis by Koelenhof was toe die ongeluk plaasgevind het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHy was op pad na sy huis nadat hy by sy jongste dogter, Anz\u00e9l, skoonseun en kleindogter gekuier het. Net voor 19:00 was hy in \u2019n trompop-botsing \u2019n paar kilometer van sy huis af op die R304-pad betrokke. Theuns was alleen in die motor,\u201d lui die verklaring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kapt. Nathalie Martin,\u2019n woordvoerder van die Stellenbosch-polisie, het bevestig dat die twee voertuie waarin die Strydoms en Stofberg gery het in \u2019n botsing betrokke was. Strydom is op die toneel dood verklaar terwyl haar man na \u2019n hospitaal vir mediese behandeling geneem is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stofberg se familie het ges\u00ea dat nooddienste hom uit die voertuig kon sny. Hy is in \u2019n kritieke toestand na \u2019n private hospitaal vervoer waar hy in \u2019n waakeenheid behandel is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSy vele beserings was egter te erg vir sy liggaam om te herstel, en hy is Woensdagoggend vroeg oorlede.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Janine Fourie, Strydom se dogter, vertel haar ma was \u2019n mense-mens wat altyd vir haar medemens omgegee het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy ma is op \u2019n baie tragiese manier oorlede. Dit is merkwaardig hoeveel testimonials<\/span> mense op Facebook oor my ma gelos het. Sy was voor ons al die Spar-winkels geopen het \u2019n onderwyseres. Sy het so \u2019n groot verskil in baie lewens gemaak,\u201d s\u00ea Fourie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mark Alexander, president van die Suid-Afrikaanse Rugbyunie, meen om te s\u00ea Theuns Stofberg het \u2019n groot impak op Suid-Afrikaanse rugby tydens \u2019n moeilike tyd in ons rugby-geskiedenis gehad, is om dit sag te stel. \u201cStofberg het sy debuut gemaak in \u2019n toets teen die All Blacks in 1976, \u2019n jaar nadat hy vir die SA o.21-span gespeel het,\u201d s\u00ea Alexander. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In sy loopbaan, het Stofberg uitgedraf vir die Springbokke in vier van hul 21 toetse tussen 1976 en 1984. Hy en Duane Vermeulen is twee Springbokke wat die Curriebeker by drie verskillende spanne gewen het \u2013 Stofberg by die Cheetahs in 1976, die Bulle in 1979 en 1980, asook vir WP in 1982 en 1983.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTheuns het \u2019n groot liefde vir rugby gehad.
