Fifteen learners from the well-known Aitsa! Aftercare Centre in Stellenbosch will live out their mountain-biking dreams at the eighth annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge at Root44 on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Aitsa! Aftercare Centre opened its doors in Kylemore in 2014. Its doors are open every afternoon, providing a safe place where children receive a cooked meal and fruit daily. It is also a place where the children\u2019s full potential can be developed through holistic programmes that provide a stimulating, nurturing and loving environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are thankful to the organisers of the Fedhealth MTB Challenge for making 15 entries available to the children from the Aitsa! After Care Centre,\u201d said Kirsty Newby, Aitsa! Aftercare youth facilitator. \u201cOur learners have been taking part in the event for a few years now. We love the vibe that the race has. Our learners have MTB practice once a week at Aitsa! Entering them into an event like this is an awesome way to reward them for all their dedication. The event gives them the opportunity to give their all while showing off their talent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said the challenge is a highlight for the youths, who thoroughly enjoyed the 2022 version. \u201cIt was a day filled with fun, where they could warm up on the pump track and then give it their all during the race. At the beginning of 2023 they were already asking when the Fedhealth race weekend will be held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur biggest reason for entering the MTB race is because of what it means to our learners. Many of them grow up in challenging circumstances or are forced to be the \u2018adult\u2019 in the household from a young age already. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Fedhealth MTB Challenge is that one day where they can forget about everything at home and just go out and enjoy life as a child again. It brings them a lot of joy.
