Die hoofstraat, ofte wel die Ou Paarl-pad, wat verby die Shoprite-sentrum en die polisiekantoor loop, het tans verskeie slaggate in die linkerbaan (aan die polisiekantoor se kant) vanaf die stroom tot net voor die Klapmuts-stortingsterrein, terwyl die meeste lamppale in di\u00e9 straat ook nie skyn nie \u2013 selfs wanneer beurtkrag ni\u00e9 toegepas word nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volgens JC Anthony, raadslid van wyk 18 in Klapmuts, is die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit bewus van die dorp se uitdagings, maar kan slegs met die \u201ctoestemming van die provinsiale regering\u201d die nodige instandhoudings-werk aanbring omdat die hoofpad aan die Wes-Kaapse departement van vervoer en openbare werke behoort, terwyl die straatligte aan Eskom behoort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zinhlezonke Zikalala, \u2019n woordvoerder van die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit, het bevestig die munisipaliteit is bewus van die uitdagings in Klapmuts. Sy verduidelik ook dat hul hande afgekap is omdat die pad en straatligte nie aan die munisipaliteit behoort nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volgens haar sal instandhoudingswerk op die hoofpad wel geskied wanneer die re\u00ebn opklaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEskom word in kennis gestel [van die straatligte] sodat die munisipaliteit toegang kan kry om die nodige instandhouding te doen. Ons [Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit gaan] voorsien dat die ligte binne die volgende week herstel sal word.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Protea-weg buite Klapmuts, wat ook deur die provinsiale departement van vervoer en openbare werke bestuur word, is luidens inwoners ook \u2019n bron van kommer. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Proteaweg word grotendeels deur plaasvoertuie gebruik, het Jandre Bakker, woordvoerder van die departement van vervoer en openbare werke, verduidelik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Volgens inwoners is die grondpad gereeld in \u2019n slegte toestand, veral oor die wintermaande, met \u201chonderde slaggate\u201d wat veroorsaak dat motors tot sowat \u201c10 km per uur\u201d moet ry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bakker het verduidelik die pad word teen gemiddelde tussenposes van \u201celke 27 dae\u201d geskraap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Volgens hom het die munisipaliteit ook planne om \u2019n gedeelte van di\u00e9 pad te rehabiliteer \u2013 van die 5,47 m-merk tot aan die einde van die pad, waar dit by die geteerde Waarburgh-weg aansluit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDie projek is tans in [die] tender-evalueringstadium, en as alles volgens plan verloop, behoort dit in die huidige boekjaar te begin,\u201d het Bakker ges\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Volgens hom word die pad deur die Kaapse Wynland-distriksmunisipaliteit (KWDM) in stand gehou, terwyl die Wes-Kaapse regering die padowerheid is. Bakker het nie uitgebrei op presies wat die rehabilitasiewerk sal insluit nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Volgens Zikalala is Klapmuts geoormerk as \u2019n ontwikkelingsgebied, waar paaie en stormwaterdienste in beide kommersi\u00eble en residensi\u00eble gebiede weldra verbeter en herontwikkel sal word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOpgraderings van die Klapmuts-aansluiting, wat bane vanaf die R44 sal byvoeg om die huidige verkeersvloei te verlig, sal ook plaasvind,\u201d het Zikalala ges\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDaar sal ook waterinfrastruktuur-opgraderings, herstelwerk en instandhouding wees, asook die opgradering van Klapmuts se waterwerke.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nuwe infrastruktuur rakende straatligte sal ook ingebring word sodat die munisipaliteit afhanklik van Eskom kan funksioneer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
