\u2019n Paar komberse, \u2019n waentjie en die viervoetige Mission Impossible is al wat grondbesetters oor het nadat hulle verlede week uit hul huisies langs die R44-pad gesit is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die paar inwoners leef reeds glo meer as \u2019n dekade lank langs die besige pad in Stellenbosch, maar is verlede Woensdag (3 April) deur wetstoepassers van die plaaslike munisipaliteit verwyder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noland Geduld (55) s\u00ea di\u00e9 aand het hy koud en met een oog wakker tussen Rietenbosch en die R44-pad geslaap. \u201cEk het gedink netnou kom hier \u2019n kar hier af van die pad en tot bo-op ons,\u201d vertel hy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geduld, Gert Daniels (53) en Charlton Arond (48) was verlede Donderdagmiddag steeds langs die pad, met geen klarigheid oor waarheen hulle volgende sou gaan nie. Di\u00e9 drie was van die handjievol inwoners wat in informele strukture munisipale grond beset het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hulle het in Maart \u2019n uitsettingsbevel van die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit ontvang. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die munisipaliteit het glo aan die inwoners ges\u00ea hulle kan na Jamestown trek, waar noodbehuising beskikbaar is. Die inwoners meen egter hul veiligheid is nie in di\u00e9 gemeenskap, waarmee hulle nie vertroud is nie, verseker nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arond versamel bedags blikkies en ander herwinbare items vir \u2019n inkomste, en toe hy verlede Woensdag by tuis kom, was sy huisie reeds afgebreek. \u201cMy identiteitsdokument is weg. Dit is saam met die ander goed in die huis op die lorrie gesit. Van die ander mense se medikasie is saam met hul besittings weggevat,\u201d vertel hy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geduld en Daniels s\u00ea hulle is aangejaag en het gegryp wat hulle kon voordat die res op die wetstoepassers se trokkie gelaai is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Andrews, \u2019n raadslid, was onder diegene wat ingespring het om die oorblywende inwoners te help. Kos en komberse is aangedra en Andrews het die inwoners probeer help om met die munisipaliteit te skakel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die inwoners meen hulle het rustig in die veld gewoon en het selfs gekeer dat skoolkinders wat die veld as \u2019n deurloop na die skool gebruik, nie deur skelms beroof word nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By navraag het die munisipaliteit ges\u00ea slegs een van die gesinne het \u2019n wendyhuis in Jamestown aanvaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie mense is verwyder omdat hulle sedert die Covid-19-ramptoestand onwettig op \u2019n rivieroewer woon. Dit is \u2019n gevaar vir hulle en \u2019n bedreiging vir die omgewing,\u201d het Stuart Grobbelaar, \u2019n munisipale woordvoerder, verduidelik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c \u2019n Hofbevel is aan [die munisipaliteit] toegestaan dat die strukture en mense verwyder moet word. Mense wat nie alternatiewe verblyf kon kry nie, is toerusting aangebied om \u2019n struktuur op te rig, maar dit is van die hand gewys.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
