Verdere kommentaar en konsultasie is nodig om die toekoms van die Wilgenhof-koshuis te bepaal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dit is die besluit van die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) se raad wat Maandag (24 Junie) vergader het om die bevindinge van \u2019n paneel wat ondersoek ingestel het nadat daar op items en foto\u2019s van o\u00ebnskynlike ritualistiese praktyke in die koshuis afgekom is, te bespreek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die gebeure in die twee verlate kamers waarin die \u201contstellende inhoud\u201d gevind is, is deur die paneel ondersoek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In sy aanbeveling het die paneel aanbeveel dat die koshuis in sy huidige vorm gesluit moet word. Di\u00e9 aanbeveling is deur prof. Wim de Villiers, US-rektor en -visekanselier, ondersteun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Intussen het Jaco Rabie, woordvoerder van die Wilgenhof-alumnivereniging, luidens \u2019n verklaring ges\u00ea die bevinding van die paneel was gebrekkig. Rabie voer aan di\u00e9 verslag moet nie gebruik word om die koshuis se toekoms te bepaal nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDie verslag, saamgestel deur \u2019n paneel van drie lede, beskuldig Wilgenhof onder meer van rassisme. Die alumni-vereniging verwerp beskuldigings van rassisme ten sterkste,\u201d lui die verklaring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rabie wys daarop dat Wilgenhof die eerste US-koshuis was wat in 1983 alle rasse toegelaat het en verskeie anti-apartheid-alumni oor die jare deel van die koshuis was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDie koshuis l\u00ea klem daarop om alle studente welkom te laat voel. Dit bevorder gemeenskap, individualisme, kritiese denke en respek,\u201d voer Rabie aan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die vereniging het die besluit van die US-raad verwelkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die ontdekking van die \u201cStrafkamer\u201d en \u201cHool 88\u201d het uiteenlopende reaksie ontlok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
De Villiers het die paneel se aanbeveling om die koshuis te sluit aanvaar, maar na afloop van sy voorlegging Maandag het die US-raad egter gevoel meer kommentaar moet ge\u00efn word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alumni, studente en belanghebbendes word nou genooi om hul s\u00ea te s\u00ea oor die kwessies wat die moontlike sluiting van Wilgenhof sou oplewer en wat die implikasies sou wees van die herontwerp van Wilgenhof as \u2019n ander en\/of opgegradeerde koshuis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kommentaar is gevra oor alternatiewe vir die sluiting van Wilgenhof wat ook die paneel se kommer aanspreek, asook wat die US-raad as aanwysers moet stel vir die sukses van hierdie alternatiewe maatre\u00ebls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die Wilgenhof-alumnivereniging se aandrang op verdere nadenke oor die saak sal dus geskied. Volgens die vereniging sou die sluiting van die koshuis net bydra tot die universiteit se huidige studente-behuisingskrisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die tydperk om skriftelike verto\u00eb te lewer is reeds oop en sluit Woensdag 31 Julie. Die US-raad sal die skriftelike verto\u00eb oorweeg en daarna kommentaar lewer \u201coor die pad vorentoe\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
