Kommentaar en konsultasie oor die voortbestaan van die Wilgenhof-koshuis van die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) is nou ingedien, met die Wilgenhof-alumni wat meen om die koshuis te sluit, sal \u201cernstige negatiewe gevolge\u201d h\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die tydperk vir voorleggings het Woensdag 31 Julie gesluit nadat die US-raad besluit het om meer inligting te kry n\u00e1 \u2019n voorlegging van die bevindinge van \u2019n paneel wat ondersoek ingestel het na twee omstrede vertrekke van die manskoshuis. Die geskiedenis en die gebruik van di\u00e9 twee kamers is ondersoek nadat \u201contstellende inhoud\u201d vroe\u00ebr vanjaar in die twee verlate kamers aangetref is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die paneel het aanbeveel die koshuis moet gesluit word \u2013 \u2019n besluit wat deur prof. Wim de Villiers, US-rektor en -visekanselier, ondersteun is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alumni, studente en belanghebbendes is toe genooi om met voorstelle te kom oor die koshuis. Kommentaar kon gelewer word oor die kwessies wat die moontlike sluiting van Wilgenhof sou oplewer en wat die implikasies sou wees van die herontwerp van Wilgenhof as \u2019n ander en\/of opgegradeerde koshuis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In \u2019n verklaring van die alumni-vereniging voer Jaco Rabie aan die groep verwerp die voorstel om die koshuis te sluit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In hul voorlegging voer die alumni aan benewens die ontwrigting wat \u2019n sluiting vir die huidige studente sal beteken, kan die sluiting tot \u2019n breuk tussen die US en sy lojale alumni-netwerk lei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDit is duidelik uit \u2019n interne alumni-opname deur die konvokasie en \u2019n goed ondersteunde aanlyn petisie dat die algemene sentiment onder Stellenbosch-alumni sterk teen die sluiting is. Uitgerekte en duur regsprosesse kan ook op die sluiting volg,\u201d lui die verklaring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die alumni meen die universiteit sal teen sy eie waardes om \u201cnoue verhoudings met belanghebbendes deur betrokkenheid te koester, samewerking en wedersyds voordelige vennootskappe te bou, sowel as die bou van \u2019n gemeenskap van gedeelde waardes\u201d handel indien die koshuis sou sluit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rabie meen versoening en hervorming moet die universiteit se dryfvere wees wat die koshuis betref. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die vereniging het tydens sy voorlegging aan die paneel verskoning gevra vir die ongelukkigheid en verleentheid wat die inhoud van die twee kamers veroorsaak het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die omstredenheid oor die kamers volg nadat die universiteit in Januarie \u2019n oudit van ruimtes en geriewe by die Wilgenhof-koshuis van stapel gestuur het. Tydens die oudit het personeel die inhoud van twee kamers van die koshuis onthul, wat volgens die rektoraat \u2019n ondersoek vereis het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die vereniging voer aan mediadekking en die verslag het dit laat blyk die koshuis is rassisties en bevorder onderdrukking wat, volgens die oud-studente, nie die geval is nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die Wilgenhof-alumnusvereniging s\u00ea hulle hoop om saam met die universiteitsgemeenskap te werk om die onlangse gebeure rakende di\u00e9 twee kamers te gebruik as \u201c \u2019 n geleentheid vir nadenke en die voortdurende verbetering van die 121 jaar oue koshuis\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
