Stellenbosch\u2019s historic town hall will host its first-ever classical music concert as part of the renowned Garden Town Stellenbosch celebrations, featuring the full Stellenbosch City Orchestra and leading South African vocal talents on Saturday 2 November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Garden Town Classics concert is set to be the concluding highlight of the annual Stellenbosch Garden Town, which has been running from Friday 25 October. This celebrated garden and lifestyle event is a showcase of the region\u2019s horticultural heritage through open gardens, botanical displays, workshops and garden tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA magical evening of classical music under the stars, set against the backdrop of the town hall \u2013 this is Stellenbosch at its finest,\u201d said Elmarie Rabe, marketing manager of Visit Stellenbosch. \u201cBy bringing together our town\u2019s architectural heritage, musical excellence and horticultural beauty, we\u2019re creating a signature event we hope will become an annual tradition \u2013 just as beautiful as the other much loved Garden Town activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme for the concert has been exclusively produced. Under the baton of Dr Paul Loeb van Zuilenburg, the Stellenbosch City Orchestra will accompany an exceptional line-up: sopranos Janel Speelman and Lynelle Kenned, tenor Louis Loock, and baritone Ni\u00ebl Rademan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The evening promises a captivating blend of melodies from classical, musical theatre and opera repertoires, including selections from La Boh\u00e8me<\/em>, Die Fledermaus<\/em>, Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em>, The Sound of Music<\/em> and Phantom of the Opera<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Drawing inspiration from the festival\u2019s garden theme, the programme will feature nature-inspired compositions including the \u201cFlower Duet\u201d from Lakm\u00e9<\/em>, \u201cBarcarolle\u201d from The Tales of Hoffmann<\/em>, and the \u201cVilja Song\u201d from The Merry Widow<\/em>. The audience will also enjoy orchestral favourites such as Strauss\u2019s \u201cBlue Danube\u201d waltz and excerpts from Vivaldi\u2019s \u201cFour Seasons\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Guests who arrive early will have the opportunity to explore the botanical-inspired market inside the town hall. From unique plants and blooms to artisanal garden products, there\u2019s something for every green thumb to discover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With so much to see, it\u2019s the perfect way to round off an evening in Stellenbosch before settling in for a spectacular night of classical music under the stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The inaugural concert has limited seating and sure to be in much demand, so booking as soon as possible is being encouraged. Tickets cost R350 per person, including a welcome drink.
