The #ClassOf2024 wrote their last paper on Wednesday, bringing to an end the five-week matric-exam period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The final exams to be written were Agricultural Management Practices (730 candidates), Marine Sciences Paper 2 (120 candidates), and Design Paper 1 (905 candidates).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement David Maynier, Western Cape MEC for Education, thanked the public for the support they had shown to matrics in this period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis support has helped us ensure all candidates had an opportunity to write their exams, even under difficult circumstances,\u201d he said. \u201cWith the exams completed, a number of learners will be attending formal matric rage events and smaller end-of-exams parties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maynier added it is understandable that the matrics want to celebrate the end of their schooling, but he urged them to do so responsibly and safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe urge all matrics attending these and other smaller events, firstly, to familiarise themselves with the safety measures at the event itself and the relevant local emergency phone numbers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlso, they must keep a close eye on their valuables at all times and, similarly, keep a close eye on their beverages at all times, and not leave them unattended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cReport anything suspicious to the South African Police Service or event organisers immediately, avoid drinking and driving, and set up a buddy system for their own safety as well as keep in regular contact with their parents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parents are encouraged to ensure their children understand the risks involved in any event or party, and to ensure they have made arrangements to stay in contact with their children and know what to do in an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The national matric results announcement has been moved to Monday 13 January 2025, to accommodate the first day of school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Individual candidate results will be released at schools and on the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) website from 10:00 on Tuesday 14 January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
