Kinders wat die Idasvallei-biblioteek besoek, kan nou ‘n skeepsvraghouer vol boeke en speelgoed net vir hulle vind, asook ‘n tuin om deur te stap.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Op Vrydag 5 Junie het besoekers, plaaslike vroe\u00ebkinderontwikkelingspraktisyns en personeel van die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit byeengekom om die VKO-biblioteek en sintuiglike tuin van die Idasvallei-biblioteek amptelik te open. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die toevoeging is ge\u00efnspireer deur die klein Zavia Madurai, kleindogter van die voormalige hoof van Stellenbosch se biblioteke, Sarala Majudith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nalatenskap<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

“Dit was twee jaar gelede toe [Majudith] die idee vir die VKO-biblioteek en sintuiglike tuin vir die eerste keer na ons gebring het. Dit het baie ure van beplanning op papier geverg om die visie te skep, en daarna het die implementering plaasgevind.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die visie was om ‘n droomw\u00eareld en veilige ruimte vir kinders te skep,” het Albert van der Merwe, bestuurder van gemeenskapsdienste, verduidelik.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy het bygevoeg dat die projek ‘n erkenning is van Majudith, wat vanjaar afgetree het, se nalatenskap.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kleintjies kan die houer op weeksdae gedurende biblioteekure (08:30 tot 17:00) besoek, en die tuin besoek wanneer die biblioteek oop is.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In die tuin sal kinders paddastoele, kunsmatige grasdiere, paadjies en die eenbeentjie-speletjie vind.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoekstene<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ndipiwe Olayi, die burgemeesterskomiteelid vir sport, jeug en kultuur, het die belangrikheid van die belegging in Stellenbosch se kinders beklemtoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Biblioteke is deel van ‘n gemeenskap se hoekstene. Met hierdie projek plaas ons bietjie va-va-voom terug in biblioteek. Kinders staan op straathoeke en te veel van hulle word agtergelaat.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons weet wat Suid-Afrikaanse kinders se syfer- en geletterdheidsvaardigheid is en hierdie is ‘n innoverende benadering om dienslewering aan ons gemeenskappe te bied,” meen hy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benewens die kleinspan is die VKO-biblioteek en sensoriese tuin ook ‘n aanwins vir OVK-onderwysstudente.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Mandy February, hoof van die nabye St. Joseph-kleuterskool, is die gespesialiseerde biblioteek beslis ‘n aanwins vir die gemeenskap. “Lede van die biblioteekspan kom besoek gereeld die skool om stories te lees en liedjies te sing en ander tye besoek ons die biblioteek,” verduidelik sy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
