Lede van die organisasie Landlords of Stellenbos<\/a>ch \u2013 Accredited Providers of Student Accommodation, s\u00ea ten spyte van wat die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US<\/a>) beweer, is die meeste van hulle steeds sonder huurgeld vir Februarie en Maart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die groep kla hulle het met die aanbreek van die akademiese jaar US-studente gehuisves, maar teen Vrydag 10\u2009April het heelwat verhuurders slegs betaling vir een maand ontvang terwyl ander s\u00ea hulle het nog geen huurgeld ontvang nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lede het in ‘n poging om antwoorde te kry, Donderdag 2 April ‘n versoekskrif aan die universiteit gerig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verhuurders s\u00ea studente is weens die gebrek aan betaling nie in staat om hul finansi\u00eble verpligtinge na te kom nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die groep huisves jaarliks sowat 5\u2009000 studente in onder meer Idasvallei en Cloetesville.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens die US is die vertra\u00adging in betalings weens verskeie redes. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deel hiervan is dat beta\u00ad\u00adlings deur die nasionale finansi\u00eble hulpskema vir studente (NSFAS)<\/a> nie geskied nie, aangesien registrasie as US-diensverskaffers en NSFAS-studente en hul huisvestingsre\u00eblings nog nie korrek geregistreer is nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die US het die betrokke studente versoek om dit onmiddellik reg te stel.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verhuurders soos Joy van Eden het egter bevestig sy is slegs vir Februarie betaal.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fabian Daniels, wat jaarliks ses studente in Jamestown huisves, het ges\u00ea slegs twee van sy studente se huurgeld is op datum. “Ek het [Vrydagoggend] flou geval as gevolg van al die spanning,” s\u00ea hy. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniels verduidelik verhuurders is kwesbaar wanneer studente besluit om hul huur- ooreenkomste te verbreek.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Verlede jaar toe dros drie studente en ek was vir ses maande sonder daardie inkomste. Die US betaal die studente direk, so hulle ‘hardloop weg’ met ons geld, al het ons ‘n 10-maande-huurooreenkoms. Dit help nie dat ons hulle hof toe sleep nie, want hulle het nie die geld nie en die universiteit trek net sy skouers op. Van ons word verwag om geen deposito te vra nie en ons moet krag, water, WiFi en ‘n bed met lessenaar en kombuistoebehore bied. Ons mag geen dienste weerhou nie.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die US het vandeesweek ges\u00ea hy is jammer vir die vertraging in betalings asook die frustrasie van die verhuurders.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terugvoer aan die verhuur\u00adders het prof. Nicola Smit, die US se waarnemende bedryfs\u00adhoof, verduidelik buiten ‘n paar betalings vir April is die meeste verwerk, met 80% van die betalings wat geprosseer was.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Gevalle wat uitstaande is, is waar sommige verhuurders nog nie op die betalingstelsel Intellimali geregistreer is nie, terwyl ander gevalle reggestel moet word weens duplikasie van interne verwysingsnommers wat in die US-administrasiestelsel, SUNStudent, geskep is. Daarbenewens wag sekere verhuurders steeds op geld van studente wat kontantbetalings direk ontvang,” s\u00ea Smit.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoewel die universiteit streef om jaarliks huurgeld vir Februarie en Maart in Februarie te betaal, is dit nie altyd haalbaar nie. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die universiteit het voorheen NSFAS-betaling aan verhuurders voorgeskiet terwyl op die hulpskema se betalings gewag is.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
