Following the success of the inaugural 2025 edition, DID:UNCONF Africa<\/a> will return to Stellenbosch this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will once again be hosted at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS)<\/a> from Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 February \u2013 a fitting home for a gathering dedicated to innovation, intellectual leadership, and the co-creation of Africa’s digital identity future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DID:UNCONF Africa is hosted by local identity innovators DIDx, in partnership with the renowned Internet Identity Workshop (IIW).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IIW is held twice a year in Silicon Valley and celebrated its 20th year in 2025. It is widely regarded to be the birthplace of many of the world’s most important digital identity standards and communities.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

True to the Open Space unConference format, DID:UNCONF Africa will not follow a pre-set agenda. Instead, a participant-led agenda will be created live each morning, enabling meaningful peer-to-peer interaction and deep exploration of high-trust digital identity systems, self-sovereign identity, verifiable credentials, cross-border trust, and real-world implementation models tailored for the African context.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Open Space unConference format breaks away from the top-down approach of conventional conferences. Here, everyone participates, contributes, and builds together \u2013 which is precisely what the digital identity ecosystem in Africa needs to truly take shape,” said Gideon Lombard, chief operating officer of DIDx.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s gathering establishes DID:UNCONF Africa as a key meeting point for innovators, public and private sector leaders, financial inclusion advocates, digital rights champions, researchers, and technology builders working to shape the future of identity on the continent. The unConference includes a dedicated day-one business and alignment programme, the women’s breakfast, and a sponsor showcase space.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will again be facilitated by Heidi Nobantu Saul. Her expertise, together with this unique format, ensures that everyone has an active voice in shaping the session outcomes.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
