Health facilities in the Western Cape welcomed 171 babies on Christmas Day and 132 on New Year’s Day, bringing festive joy to families across the province.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the New Year’s Day celebrations was the arrival of a baby girl at Stellenbosch Hospital at 01:38. Weighing 3,2\u2009kg, this bundle of joy made history as the third baby born in the province in 2026 and the first girl to arrive in the new year. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The precious little girl followed two baby boys born at Mowbray Maternity Hospital at midnight and Paarl Hospital three minutes later.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As we step into a new year, we celebrate the first precious lives born in 2026,” said Mireille Wenger, provincial Health and Wellness minister. “Our focus is on giving every child a strong and healthy start through quality care.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
