Die swop shop<\/em> is ‘n inisiatief van die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit waar inwoners herwinbare afval kan ruil vir items om hul koskassies aan te vul. Hoewel die projek reeds in verskeie van die dorpies in die munisipale gebied van stapel gestuur is, was vandeesweek se geleentheid die eerste in Cloetesville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Hierdie is regtig ‘n goeie inisiatief. My man is in die tronk en ek het twee kinders, so nou kan ek ‘n sappie kry vir my dogter. Sy hou veral van sap en dan wil ek mieliemeel kry, dan weet ek daar is darem iets vir vanaand. Ek wil ook ‘n kers kry, want ons het nie elektrisiteit nie,” vertel Bernadine Pienaar (36) wat die oggend ‘n sak vol hernubare afval aan die munisipale beamptes oorhandig het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Inwoners kan enige skoon blikkies, glas bottels, karton of ander herwinbare afval ruil vir ‘n kaartjie. Met die kaartjies kan hulle dan verskeie basies kruideniersware by die munisipale winkeltjie “koop”. Geblikte boontjies, geblikte vis, visolie, pasta, tee, kerse en toiletpapier is onder die daaglikse noodsaaklikheid wat inwoners kan ruil. Daar is ook lekkernye soos NikNaks en koekies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Donderdag was dit kitsnoedels, koffie en suikers wat veral gewild was onder jonk en oud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Die laaste sel van die munisipaliteit se stortingsterrein is in Februarie geopen. By die geleentheid het Clayton Hendricks, senior bestuurder van afvalbestuur, verduidelik die munisipaliteit het verskeie inisiatiewe van stapel gestuur om te verseker minder afval eindig in die stortingsterrein in Devonvallei. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “Die doel is om ‘n sel so lank as moontlik te laat hou, maar die werklikheid is dat die tydsraamwerk vir elke sel al hoe korter word. Ons het die gemeenskap se hulp nodig om te kyk na die vermindering van die afval wat na die stortingsterrein gebring word,” het hy vroe\u00ebr vanjaar verduidelik. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Met die opening het die laaste sel het 1,1 miljoen kubieke meter lugruim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Volgens Elsabe Vermeulen, raadslid, is dit goed om te sien hoeveel inwoners vroegoggend reeds sakke hernubare afval ingehandig het. “Daardie inwoner drink daagliks, maar nou het sy noedels vir haar kinders gekry. Daar is dan iets in die koskassies. Deur projekte soos hierdie leer ons ook ons jongmense dat hulle hulself kan bemagtig en selfstandig wees. Nie net het hulle afval van die huis gebring nie, maar het ook afval in die strate opgetel,” meen sy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wilma Khan, lid van die Cloetesville-buurtwag se Flat Watch, s\u00ea baie inwoners in die buurt trek swaar en baie het nie geld om selfs basiese krudeniersware te koop nie. “November is gewoonlik ‘n maer maand so nou het hulle geleentheid om die koskassie aan te vul,” s\u00ea sy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Joh!
