Stellenbosch police recently arrested a suspect who allegedly fired a firearm in Techno Park.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police reports a local security guard stopped a police officer to inform him that his colleague was in a fight with someone in possession of a firearm in Techno Park around 22:05 on Wednesday 5 November. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the police arrived in Quantum Street, they found a security guard with the suspect. They searched him and confiscated a firearm in his possession.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police officers contacted the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) and, while waiting, they came across a white Land Rover Defender in an open field in Quantum Street, which had the keys inside as well as a black rifle on the front passenger seat. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vehicle, along with the firearm, was taken to the local police station. There the suspect confirmed the Land Rover Defender and rifle belonged to him.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In total police found a R5 rifle with 120 rounds, one R4 rifle and 14 9\u2009mm rounds.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect was arrested on charges of discharging a firearm in a public place as well as criminal negligence with a firearm. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect appeared in the Stellenbosch Magistrates’ Court on Friday 7 November and since been released on bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
