{"id":265313,"date":"2025-07-15T09:33:33","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T07:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/eikestadnuus\/police-over-9000-gbvf-suspects-arrested-in-five-months\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T11:24:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T09:24:53","slug":"police-over-9000-gbvf-suspects-arrested-in-five-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/eikestadnuus\/police-over-9000-gbvf-suspects-arrested-in-five-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Police: Over 9 000 GBVF suspects arrested in five months"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Police arrested 9 287 Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) suspects for various crimes \u2013including murder, sexual offences, and assault \u2013 between January and May 2025, says Gauteng Police Commissioner Dr Polly Boshielo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the same period, 150 perpetrators nationwide were sentenced to life imprisonment, and 138 received sentences of 20 years or more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boshielo urged community members not to suffer in silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows the <a href=\"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/jayden-lee-meek-murder-crime-scene-allegedly-staged\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">court appeareance of Tiffany Meek (31)<\/a> on Monday on charges related to the murder of her 11-year old son Jayden-Lee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jayden-Lee\u2019s bruised body was discovered on the staircase outside his family\u2019s home in Fleurhof, Roodepoort, in May \u2013 just hours after he was reported missing. At the time, Meek claimed her son disappeared after being dropped off that afternoon by his school transport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meek also criticised the police in various media interviews, claiming they were negligent in handling the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigators believe Jayden-Lee returned home from school on the day he went missing and was allegedly killed inside the apartment. doors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAny type of abuse must be reported, and we urge community members, neighbours, and family members to meet us halfway in the fight against GBVF.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npa.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Prosecuting Authority<\/a> (NPA) Gauteng regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says the NPA remains committed to ensuring justice for victims in similar cases and will continue to hold perpetrators
