I visited a family member who had undergone surgery at Mediclinic Vergelegen on Friday 27 January. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On my arrival, I saw a section of the hospital has been cordoned off as a result of the upgrades to the hospital. I read about the renovations at the hospital in DistrictMail<\/i>, so it was no surprise to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, I was very disappointed at the poor or lack of signage directing people where to enter the hospital. Signs leading visitors to the various wards and departments at the hospital were clearly posted, while exit was clearly marked inside the hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nowhere was there a sign outside the \u201ctemporary\u201d entrance indicating where visitors should enter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was forced to walk from door to door looking for the correct entrance, with a four-month-old in a howling and chilly wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understandably, the construction and renovations are inconveniences not only to visitors and patients, but also hospital staff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps hospital management will consider easing people\u2019s visit to the hospital by posting a simple sign marking the entrance to the hospital. Hopefully this was merely an oversight on their part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garth Smith, Mediclinic Vergelegen patient experience manager, responds: I\u2019m aware that the renovations are somewhat disorientating for our patients and visitors. We apologise for the inconvenience, and ask for the community\u2019s continued support during the upgrading phase of the building project. We have anticipated that the need for signage would be very important during this particular phase, as it encompasses the shifting around of wards, the restaurant, patient administration, main reception and main entrance of the hospital. To that extent, we have tried to install all necessary signage before this phase of the upgrade commenced. The particular sign referred to, for the temporary main entrance, was in fact put up on Thursday 26 January by our project team, as we knew it was one of the most important for our visitors and patients. We are aware that with all the changes things seem a bit disjointed and disorientating, but we thank the public for their understanding and support, and we assure them that they can look forward to a wonderfully upgraded facility once this portion of the building project is completed. We hope that the inconvenience will be as minimally disruptive as possible moving forward.<\/answer><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
