Gordon\u2019s Bay Yacht Club (GBYC) will once again play host to the Anything that Floats race in aid of the Nationa Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) scheduled for Heritage Day weekend next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s event will be incorporated into two days, which will include a themed evening and wine auction, rooftop market, prize-giving, and closing braai for Heritage Day festivities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGet your ship together,\u201d urged Elenore Baiocchi, the former GBYC manager who is lending a helping hand as committee chairperson in organising the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor many years the members of GBYC have tapped into their creativity \u2013 and their pockets \u2013 to do as much as possible to thank NSRI Station 9 (based at Gordon\u2019s Bay Harbour) for all they do for us. The event is \u2018Anything that Floats\u2019 and is usually a one-day affair, but this year we\u2019re making it a whole lot more.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baiocchi said it\u2019s somehow easier and possibly more exciting to set out with a target in their sights, and discussions with NSRI Station 9 partners identified a need to purchase a \u201cHigh & Dry boat lift\u201d when they receive their new vessel. This piece of equipment will protect the vessel, reduce maintenance and extend its lifespan. It comes at a cost of R200 000 and GBYC has set its sights on this pretty audacious goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is therefore a time when we talk to friends, family, partners, suppliers, connections and anyone we think might benefit from being involved or just enjoy the concept,\u201d said Baiocchi. \u201cThere are many ways to get involved, which include sponsoring the day or a specific race, hosting a market stall, racing on the day or being a spectator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll proceeds from sponsorships, the race, market stall fees and auction will go to NSRI Station 9. We hope you will be with us as we join forces to help those that give so tirelessly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race is quite critical to the success of the weekend and truly is the most fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A call has been made for all types of entries \u2013 social, schools, universities, clubs, businesses and everything in between. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few NSRI stations are already on board, and organisers are hoping the individuals and organisations will put a team together and issue a challenge to a competitor or rival they\u2019d love to race against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
