\u201cWe recommend you avoid any kind of distraction that takes your eyes and concentration away from the road. Never use your cellphone, for example, or send text messages while driving.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is also important to test the vehicle\u2019s roadworthiness before you set off on any longer journey. Many accidents are caused by bursting tyres or other aspects that could have been picked up by you or a mechanic. Badly worn tyres pose a definite safety risk, especially when driving on wet or slippery roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSome parents might also be worried about their children who will be driving for the first time now that they have finished school and obtained their drivers\u2019 licences,\u201d says Bartmann. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI recommend you have a frank and honest discussion with your young adult children about the rules of the road and the privilege of driving. You need to create an environment in which they understand the enormous responsibility on their shoulders as drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And speaking of children, if you are travelling with small children please ensure they are safely secured in a properly fitted car seat designed to restrain children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
