A rise to the top by All Saints RFC in the Super League B is looking even more likely, following an impressive 13-5 win over CPUT at Helderzicht Sports Grounds in Somerset West on Saturday (17 June).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commended for their expert sleek and steady handling in wet and rainy conditions, All Saints dominated from the beginning and gave away not an inch of the ball. CPUT tried to hit back and were disciplined, but were never given a chance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scorers for All Saints were Aiden Januarie and Ramiz Collins who scored a try a piece, whereas Marco Viljoen kicked a penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s our third win in the rain and the players have really adapted to our game\u2013plan, and that is to keep the ball with the forwards,\u201d said vice-chairperson Brendon Bell, \u201cbut it was our backs who scored. This just shows you the depth of our squad. They\u2019ve been consistent the entire season, and there\u2019s no single player who stands out. It\u2019s been a team effort, and every member of this team has contributed to our success so far.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bell added that the squad was focused and committed to their goal of a top two finish this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe really needed the win against CPUT and we got it. Now our focus moves to Franschhoek this weekend. We know that this will be a different game entirely as they can be very tough to beat on home soil, but we\u2019re hard at practice and hopefully can come away with another win. If we do then we\u2019ll be well on our way to a very successful season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All Saints, however, could get some confidence from their match against Franschhoek last year at Helderzicht, when they were victorious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know Franschhoek have the same intention, and that is to win, and they appear a better team than last year,\u201d said Bell. \u201cIt will be an exciting test for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commenting on the passing of Stuart Williams, an executive member of All Saints and fondly known as Pinky, Bell said the impact of his passing will be felt for a long time to come as he was also a well-known rugby player and a friend to so many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWilliams would always he supportive, motivating the forwards and advising them. He was an influential presence on the field and we will all miss him.\u201d.<\/span> This weekend also sees a derby between Helderberg Rugby Club and St George\u2019s at Charles Morkel Stadium in a Super League A clash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In the last 10 years the two local clubs have played each other six times, including a friendly and five Super League B fixtures. This will be a first encounter in Super League A. Helderberg has won four of those encounters and the Lulu Boys two.
