The chairperson of Gordon\u2019s Bay Neighbourhood Watch (GBNW), Steve Paul, was arrested last Friday (31 May) for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Gordon\u2019s Bay police have confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was arrested along with another watch member at around 16:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe can confirm a case of illegal possession of a firearm and ammuni\u00adtion is being investigated,\u201d a media statement from Gordon\u2019s Bay police divulged. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe had his first court appearance at the Strand Magistrates\u2019 Court on Monday 3 June, and the case is currently on the court role.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement did not clarify when the next court appearance would be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paul was elected chairperson of GBNW at the beginning of last year and, pending the outcome of the investigation, vice-chairperson Leon Lottering is currently stepping up as acting chairperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commenting on the matter, the chairperson of the Gordon\u2019s Bay Community Policing Forum (CPF), Edwina Hadfield, said the CPF was in contact with the Department of Safety and Security Police Oversight and Community Safety to ensure smooth transition of the neighbourhood watch that plays a pivotal role in the safety of Gordon\u2019s Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
