According to Somerset West police spokesperson Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, police members followed up on a tip-off of abalone being transported from Sir Lowry\u2019s Pass on the N2 around 08:00. \u201cThe vehicle, a gold Nissan Almera with one occupant, the driver, was spotted on the corner of the highway and Victoria Street,\u201d she related. \u201cPolice attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop. A chase ensued into the Khayelitsha area. The vehicle was found abandoned in Jafta K Masemola Street. Its believed the driver fled between the shacks.\u201d While the suspect remained at large police confiscated five bags containing 458 units of abalone valued at R250 000. The abalone was handed over to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. According to Somerset West police spokesperson Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, police members followed up on a tip-off of abalone being transported from Sir Lowry\u2019s Pass on the N2 around 08:00. \u201cThe vehicle, a gold Nissan Almera with one occupant, the driver, was spotted on the corner of the highway and Victoria Street,\u201d she related. \u201cPolice attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop. A chase ensued into the Khayelitsha area. The vehicle was found abandoned in Jafta K Masemola Street. Its believed the driver fled between the shacks.\u201d While the suspect remained at large police confiscated five bags containing 458 units of abalone valued at R250 000. The abalone was handed over to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.
