Well-known Somerset West resident Helmuth von Michaelis\u2019 artwork will be exhibited in a quaint antique store for an indefinite period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Von Michaelis has been painting since 1978, but has decided to work on his art full time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is the first time my work is on display outside of my studio,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His father, Heini von Michaelis, was a \u201cfamous painter\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After years of using his room as a studio he says he looked around for a suitable place where he could exhibit his work, but could never find anything suitable, or comfortable for that matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUntil I found this new antique shop at Chelsea Village. The antiques and my paintings complement each other well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Husband-and-wife team Guy and Karlo Pluck only recently opened their little antique store, Karlo and Guy Antiques<\/i>, and are happy to have their store serve as a studio and exhibition space for Von Michaelis\u2019 works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are really happy having his paintings in our store,\u201d says Karlo. \u201cWe would definitely like it to be an ongoing thing. And because our space is limited, we will change the furniture from time to time and so will display various pieces of art, to keep the space fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Von Michaelis says he has no specific favourite piece, but loves all his completed works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love all my successful paintings as I get very attached to them. I put a lot into them. My paintings are like my children.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He adds that he draws inspiration from almost anything, but loves nature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been extending my skills and am still trying new things. I love painting nature, mountains, the sea and wild flowers.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The amount of time to complete one piece will vary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI used to work on pictures in my head for months at a time before I actually started the process of painting it onto a canvas,\u201d the artist said. \u201cI used to even try to finish a painting in one go, but that is not always possible.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
