The officials of the municipality\u2019s Human Settlements Directorate and Informal Settlements Unit, aside from those of the power utility, visited Helen Square, Robben Island and Wag \u2019n Bietjie informal settlements in Nomzamo for a first-hand account of issues residents of these areas face daily. According to Lasiti, a number of key concerns were highlighted during the tour, including the fact that the three areas must be formally categorised by council\u2019s Human Settlements Directorate. Other service delivery matters set to be addressed are the electrification of the informal settlements and the establishment and implementation of adequate water and sanitation services. \u201cThe City will forward a map of all three areas to Eskom so its officials will do a desktop and feasibility study on the structures that are suitable for electrification,\u201d Lasiti said. a bid to improve service delivery issues in parts of Ward 85 and Ward 86, Eskom and City of Cape Town officials, together with proportional representative councillor Unathi Lasiti and community leaders, embarked on a walkabout of three informal settlements within the wards last Monday (1 August). The officials of the municipality\u2019s Human Settlements Directorate and Informal Settlements Unit, aside from those of the power utility, visited Helen Square, Robben Island and Wag \u2019n Bietjie informal settlements in Nomzamo for a first-hand account of issues residents of these areas face daily. According to Lasiti, a number of key concerns were highlighted during the tour, including the fact that the three areas must be formally categorised by council\u2019s Human Settlements Directorate. Other service delivery matters set to be addressed are the electrification of the informal settlements and the establishment and implementation of adequate water and sanitation services. \u201cThe City will forward a map of all three areas to Eskom so its officials will do a desktop and feasibility study on the structures that are suitable for electrification,\u201d Lasiti said.
