The City of Cape Town\u2019s anti-litter mascot Bingo visited Temperance Town Primary School in Gordon\u2019s Bay last week to spread the anti-littering message. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bingo visited the primary school for a presentation on the dangers of littering and encouraging learners to dispose of their waste in the right way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bingo and the City\u2019s Public Awareness, Communications and Education team are maintaining a focus on the dangers of litter and dumping, and the importance of recycling, to reduce waste at schools around Cape Town, with vibrant and engaging presentations and games for the children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is always inspiring to see youngsters get excited about recycling and keeping their city clean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt gives hope that there is still time to save the next generation before they fall into the culture of littering and dumping that is alive in many communities,\u201d said Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee member for Urban Waste Management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlthough the City provides refuse collection and cleansing services, unfortunately many residents see littering and dumping as a way of creating or sustaining jobs, so they do not make the effort to dispose of waste the right way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf we can reach children early enough, show them the benefits of a healthy environment and give them hope that this is achievable we can uplift communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe can create healthy spaces that communities can be proud of, where businesses want to invest in the creation of real jobs and where the next generation can build. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur communities have so much unrealised potential that is being destroyed by littering and dumping, but to see the reaction of the children today gives me a lot of hope that we can change course.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
