SPAR Western Cape donated 22 000 packs of Petals sanitary pads to the Boland Veterans Cricket Association (BVCA) at the SPAR Distribution Centre recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSPAR is proud to be associated with the Boland Cricket Veterans\u2019 Dignity Project through our SPAR women\u2019s road race, again this year,\u201d said Elsabe van Zyl-Felix, advertising manager for SPAR Western Cape at the handover. \u201cIt\u2019s so important to have these male voices in the space where we are endeavouring to create equal opportunities for women.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The BVCA is committed to develop\u00adment within sport. They believe that \u201cgiving back\u201d starts with their play\u00aders. In the development of women\u2019s cri\u00adc\u00adket, they feel strongly that it is a hu\u00adman right for girls not to miss out on equal opportunity because of pe\u00adriod po\u00adver\u00adty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Along with the sanitary pad drive, that distributes sanitary pads to girls in need, the organisation\u2019s Dignity Programme also offers a skill-set programme, promoting a healthy lifestyle and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Said James Albanie, seasoned Boland veteran player and coach who heads up the Dignity Programme: \u201cWe value this generous donation. It forms such an important part of the work that we are doing. It is so well received in the communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThanks to this sizeable donation, we have been able to extend our reach in the Boland to places like Elands Bay, Wupperthal and deep rural areas. We have encouraged EP and Border veterans to do the same. We are able to target a broader sporting base and have now included girls playing rugby and baseball.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
