Further to the article about the R4-million repairs and renovations planned for our local hospital, one has to wonder whether the project includes provision for proper parking at the hospital’s casualty section on Irene Road (“H’berg Hospital gets needed facelift<\/a>,” DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, 13 May).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite clear no-parking signage, people continue to park in the cycling lane and on the opposite side of the road where parking is prohibited. This has created an accident waiting to happen, restricting the flow of traffic in both directions on a blind bend.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is imperative that an area within the hospital grounds be designated for vehicles accessing the emergency entrance, rather than allowing parking on the road. Alternatively, the renovations could incorporate an entrance to the casualty section accessible directly from the hospital property, removing the need to open onto Irene Road altogether. Or the traffic department could station a permanent officer there to issue spot fines and redirect patients and visitors to the main parking area.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
