“Wat moet ons doen?” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00edt was na bewering ‘n polisiebeampte se reaksie toe ‘n Casablanca-inwoner hom gevra het om in te gryp tydens ‘n noodlottige bendesteekvoorval in die gebied voorverlede naweek.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Hulle [die polisie] verwag ons moet ons lewe op die spel plaas, maar wil nie hul lewe in gevaar stel nie,” s\u00ea ‘n vies inwoner.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die voorval het om 23:55 op Vrydag 13 Maart in Casablanca plaasgevind. Volgens kol. Jacqui Johnson, die Strand-polisie se bevelvoerder, het die skote tydens die voorval geklap en drie mense is gesteek (“Drie met messe gesteek<\/a>“, DistriksPos & Helderberg Gazette, 18 Maart).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘n Man is noodlottig gewond terwyl nog twee mans na ‘n nabygele\u00eb hospitaal vervoer is. Hulle was tussen 20 en 25 jaar oud.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘n Sewentienjarige en ‘n 23-jarige verdagte is in hegtenis geneem en van moord aangekla, sowel as twee voorvalle van poging tot moord en ernstige aanranding.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albei verdagtes het Maandag 16 Maart vir in die Strand-landdroshof verskyn.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens die inwoner het die voorval tussen twee bendegroepe uitgebreek wat mekaar op die hoek van Cassies-pad en O’Connell-rylaan met messe aangeval het. Polisievoertuie het glo opgedaag, maar op die hoek bly staan terwyl die chaos in O’Connell-rylaan voortgegaan het.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die inwoner s\u00ea ‘n voertuig se ligte het so skerp in sy erf geskyn dat dit hom verblind het.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Toe ek die beampte in die voertuig vra hoekom hy dit doen en of hy nie die chaos moet keer nie, het hy vir my ges\u00ea ‘wat moet ons doen’?” vertel die inwoner.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy was verder geskok toe die beamptes na bewering kinders gevra het om le\u00eb patroondoppies op te tel nadat die openbare orde-eenheid die bendes met traanrook en rubberkoe\u00ebls uiteen probeer jaag het. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die polisie het niks gedoen nie. Hulle het misluk om die gemeenskap te beskerm en hul mandaat laat vaar,” beklemtoon die inwoner.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy beweer al wat hulle in Casablanca agtergelaat het, was beskadigde eiendom.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson s\u00ea sy kan nie op die bewerings kommetaar lewer nie en voeg by dat geen klagte teen beamptes aangemeld is nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy het die inwoner aangemoedig om ‘n klagte aan te meld. Sy het wel bevestig dat die saak amptelik as bendeverwant ondersoek word en \u00f3f die voorval uit ‘n bendegeveg gespruit het.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson het verder ges\u00ea baie van die mense op die toneel was onder die invloed van drank. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens die skofbevelvoerder het ‘n beampte kontak gemaak met die openbare orde-eenheid en aangrensende polisiekantore se personeel wat na die toneel ontbied is.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Standaardprotokol vir beamptes is om die situasie te beoordeel en hulp te ontbied waar nodig,” s\u00ea Johnson.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy doen ‘n beroep op die gemeenskap van Casablanca: “Kom ons werk saam om misdaad-aktiwiteite in ons gemeenskap uit te roei.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terwyl die gemeenskap en polisie beskuldigings heen en weer slinger, is ‘n ma in rou gedompel. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DistrikPos en Helderberg Gazette<\/em> het na die slagoffer se ma uitgereik, maar sy het verkies om nie kommentaar te lewer nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
