Fadia Abels will again wear the green and gold.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Helderberg local Fadia “Fadz” Abels is once again preparing to wear the green and gold on the world stage.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the second time the Somerset West coach has been selected to represent South Africa at the 2026 Tag Rugby World Cup, in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia in October.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the passionate athlete and mentor the honour is deeply meaningful. “I never take the opportunity to represent my country for granted. It’s a privilege that motivates me to keep pushing harder and striving for more, not just for myself, but for the young players who look up to me.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abels is not only a national tag-rugby player, but also a dedicated tag-rugby coach in Somerset West, mentoring children aged nine to 14. Through her coaching she focuses on skills and tactics, also building confidence, teamwork, resilience and belief.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding to her sports r\u00e9sum\u00e9, Abels is also a competitive swimmer who will represent her team, Cape Town Masters, at the South African Masters’ Swimming Championships next month. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balancing two demanding sporting codes at a high level is no small feat, yet she approaches both with the same discipline, focus and determination.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abels is an exceptionally hard-working and dedicated athlete, highly motivated to excel in both disciplines while continuing to uplift the next generation of sportsmen and women in her community.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her commitment to excellence has already delivered international success. In 2023 Abels captained the South African team at the Tag Rugby World Cup in Limerick, Ireland, leading them to a fifth-place finish in their category and bringing home the shield, a proud achievement for both her team and her community.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now her sights are set even higher. “My goal for 2026 is to finish in the top three and, if possible, to bring the World Cup home,” she declares.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Competing at an international level comes with significant costs. Abels is required to raise R65 000 to cover flights, accommodation, entry fees, official kit and more, for the tournament.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her, however, this journey is about more than competition. It is about representation, inspiration and showing young athletes in the Helderberg that their dreams are valid and achievable.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
