Terwyl die Stad Kaapstad op ‘n raadsitting ‘n veiligheidsmuur langs die lughawe-aanloop van die N2 aangekondig het, het ‘n tweede voetganger in minder as ‘n maand op die onbeskermde Macassar-gedeelte gesterf.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaapstad se burgemeester, Geordin Hill-Lewis, het Donderdag 29 Januarie die nuutgedoopte N2 Edge-projek aangekondig wat byna nege kilometer langs die berugte hell run<\/em> sal strek \u2013 minder as ‘n week voordat die N2 in Macassar weer Woensdag 4 Februarie ‘n voetganger se lewe ge\u00ebis het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens ‘n woordvoerder vir die Macassar-polisie het die ongeluk om 06:00 net n\u00e1 die Macassarpad op die N2 agter Rubenpad plaasgevind toe ‘n onbekende 37-jarige man oor die snelweg gehardloop het.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘n Wit Volkswagen Polo, wat in die rigting van Kaapstad gery het, het die man getref. Die polisie het op die toneel aangekom waar die man dood verklaar is.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die polisie ondersoek ‘n saak van strafbare manslag, maar die man is nog nie ge\u00efdentifiseer nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die ongeluk volg n\u00e1 ‘n soortgelyke voorval waarin Edwina Sinkfontein, ‘n ma van drie, Sondag 18 Januarie gesterf het toe sy die N2 oorgesteek het. (“Ma van drie dood op N2<\/a>“, Distrikspos & Helderberg Gazette<\/em>, 28 Januarie).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leticia Poggenpoel, Sinkfontein se niggie, het vroe\u00ebr oor die gevaarlike toegang gewaarsku. “Hoekom kon die mense wat in beheer daarvan is, nie n\u00e1 die eerste dood dringende maatre\u00ebls ingestel het nie?” het Poggenpoel gevra. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tot onlangs het die Stad volgehou dat die N2-snelweg Sanral se verantwoordelikheid is. Carl Pophaim, die burgemeesterskomiteelid vir menslike nedersettings, het ges\u00ea: “Die N2 is ‘n nasionale pad onder Sanral se jurisdiksie, en die Stad het nie voorsiening binne sy goedgekeurde projekbegrotings vir voortdurende vervanging van infrastruktuur wat deur voortdurende misdaad verlore gaan nie.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit het gevolg nadat die Stad beweer het dat heinings oorspronklik tydens die konstruksie van die Macassar-behuisingsprojek ge\u00efnstalleer is, maar later “as gevolg van herhaalde voorvalle van diefstal en vandalisme beskadig en gesteel is”.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rob Quintas, die burgemeesterskomiteelid vir stedelike mobiliteit, het egter nou bevestig dat die Stad herstelwerk aan sekuriteitsversperrings en ander veiligheidsinisiatiewe lang die N2 sal bou hangende die uitslag van ‘n haalbaarheids- en omvangstudie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e1 talle pogings om vir infrastruktuur-herstelwerk te pleit, het die Stad besluit dat ingryping nodig is. Die Stad het voorsiening vir drie fases van ongeveer drie kilometer elk gemaak. Die eerste fase sal van Airport Approach-pad tot by die R300 ge\u00efmplementeer word, die tweede van die R300 tot by Mewweg, en die derde van Mewweg tot by Baden Powell-rylaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quintas het ges\u00ea die Airport Approach gedeelte is gekies weens veiligheids oorwegings en om te verhoed dat mense toegang tot ‘n ho\u00ebvolume-, ho\u00ebspoed-pad kry, asook om vee van die nasionale pad weg te hou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quintas hou vol dat veiligheidsversperrings langs die N2 in Macassar steeds Sanral se verantwoordelikheid is, maar het verduidelik dat die Stad ‘n memorandum van ooreenkoms met die padowerheid wil aangaan om die N2 Edge Safety-projek moontlik te maak.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die mees wenslike opsie is egter dat Sanral proaktief infrastruktuurherstelwerk langs die Macassar-gedeelte en ander gedeeltes wat nie in die eerste drie fases gedek word nie, aanspreek”, het Quintas ges\u00ea.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Stad het die koerant se vraag oor bekommernisse dat toeriste- en pendelveiligheid naby die lughawe bo voetgangerveiligheid in gemeenskappe soos Macassar geprioritiseer word, na Sanral verwys.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
